Miss Rosalie has requested I make her a Hello Kitty hat, and try as I might, I just can not find a pattern that I love for it, so I am doing my own thing!! I don’t have nearly enough free patterns on here, so here’s going to be one!
I do not, in any way, own Hello Kitty.
What you need:
- White Yarn (I’m using I Love This Yarn white, but any Worsted Weight will work)
- Yarn for Accent (I’m using Pink)
- Size H-5.00MM hook
- Scissors
- Darning Needles
- Stitch Markers (Unless you want to use my method…)
Abbreviations you might need to know….
- SC; Single Crochet
- HDC; Half Double Crochet
On to the pattern 🙂
DO NOT JOIN AFTER EACH ROUND.
- Make a magic ring – Chain 1 – Do 8 SC in the loop of the magic ring! (8 stitches total)
- 2 HDC in each single crochet in the round before! (16 stitches total)
- HDC in next HDC – 2 in the next HDC. *Do this a total of 8 times* (24 stitches total)
- HDC in each of the next 2 HDC – 2 in the next. *Do this a total of 8 times* (32 stitches total)
- HDC in each of the next 3 HDC – 2 in the next. *Do this a total of 8 times* (40 stitches total)
- HDC in each of the next 4 HDC – 2 in the next. *Do this a total of 8 times* (48 stitches total)
- HDC in each of the next 5 HDC – 2 in the next. *Do this a total of 8 times* (56 stitches total)
- HDC in each of the next 6 HDC – 2 in the next. *Do this a total of 8 times* (64 stitches total)

Earflaps;
- Count 8 stitches to the LEFT of where you finished off. Attach Yarn.
- Chain 1, HDC in next 10 stitches, crocheting over the yarn from your tail as you go. Turn.
- Chain 1, HDC2together, HDC in next 6, HDC2together. Turn.
- Chain 1, HDC2together, HDC in next 4, HDC2together. Turn.
- Chain 1, HDC2together, HDC in next 2, HDC2together. Turn.
- Chain 1, HDC2together twice. Finish off.
Other Earflap;
- Count 19 stitches to the RIGHT of where you finished off the hat.
Finish off.
Switch to Pink (or your chosen trim & braid color…) Single Crochet around the entire hat, including the earflaps. I start this where I finished off the main part of the hat, This will be the back of the hat.
Ears; (Make 2)
For the ears, I held 2 strands of yarn together to make them stiffer & stand up better!
- Chain 7, Single Crochet in 2nd chain from hook & across. Turn. (6)
- Chain 1, SC across. Turn. (6)
- Chain 1, SC2together, SC in next 2, SC2together. Turn. (4)
- Chain 1, SC across. Turn (4).
- Chain 1, SC2together, twice. Turn. (2)
- Chain 1, SC in both stitches. Turn. (2)
- Chain 1, SC2together. (1)
- Chain 1, SC around entire ear.
Make sure when you’re starting with your chain 7, ONE strand of yarn is longer so you can use that strand to attach your ears to your hat!
Eyes; (Make 2)
- Chain 5, SC twice in 2nd chain from hook, 1 SC in next 2, 3 SC in next. DO NOT TURN. Switch to other side of the chain 5. Single crochet in the next 4 stitches. Leave a long tail for sewing on to the hat. Pull the center strand of yarn tight to make your eye more oval.
Nose
Chain 4. SC twice in 2nd chain from hook. 1 sc in next. 3 sc in next. DO NOT TURN. Switch to the other side of the chain 4. Single crochet in each of the 3 stitches. Pull your strand of yarn tight, You might have to weave it through the other side to close a couple holes where you put more than 1 single crochet in a stitch! The nose is nothing huge. Just a small oval. Feel free to play around with how you do it best.
Bow
- With your accent color, Chain 12.
- Rows 2-5, HDC in each previous stitch. Turn. Chain 1. (11)
- Take a LONG strand of this color and wrap it around the bow to cinch it together. (I wrapped it around approximately 20 times.
Love this! Thanks for the pattern. I made it for my granddaughter.
